Kate Carmel is a certified member of the Appraisers Association of America and is compliant with all USPAP requirements. When she was chief curator of the American Craft Museum (now the Museum of Arts and Design) in New York, she oversaw a calendar of exhibitions focused on international latter 20th century craft and design, appraised objects for acquisition for the museum’s collection and was curator and co-author of the museum’s program of nationally circulated exhibitions and scholarly catalogs. Before that she was Curator of 20th Century Decorative Art and Design for David Hanks and Associates, Museum Consultants in New York, when she assembled collections of nineteenth and twentieth century decorative arts for institutional and private clients including the Montreal Museum of Decorative Arts (now part of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts). She was co-curator and co-author of the catalog accompanying that museum’s widely circulated and ground–breaking exhibition Design 1935-1965: What Modern Was. Ms. Carmel has also worked for Phillips de Pury Auctioneers, New York. Ms Carmel frequently works with Toni Greenbaum, an art historian specializing in twentieth and twenty-first century jewelry and metalwork, with 30 years of scholarship in the field.
