Lin Cheung and Manuel Vilhena will teach the masterclasses June 22–26, 2024. Cheung will teach around the theme of “Hope,” and Vilhena about “jewelry in action.” This relates to the overall theme of the biennial, with its focus on political jewels and jewels of power. (2024 marks the 50th anniversary of a democratic Portugal.) Also: 20+ exhibitions; schools meetings; a galleries showroom June 28–30; and a colloquium June 27–29. ORNAMENTA, THE BJC’S ANNUAL BENEFIT PARTY: MARCH 9, 2024, 7 P.M.
This year, Ornamenta will take place at 2640 Space. It includes a silent auction where you can bid on beautiful pieces of art jewelry, as well as a raffle full of goodies. Your finest cocktail attire is requested, and this year is inspired by all things sapphire. Tickets are available on the BJC’s website, here. And even if you’re not in Baltimore, there are ways you can support the BJC’s annual fundraiser.
MAD ABOUT JEWELRY 2024: MAY 5–8, 2024
During the Museum of Arts and Design’s annual benefit sale of contemporary jewelry, you’ll find work by 50 contemporary jewelry artists from 19 countries. A Gala Brunch and preview shopping for ticket purchasers takes place May 4. MAD About Jewelry has become known as the ultimate pop-up shop for contemporary, artist-made jewelry, where collectors and jewelry enthusiasts have the rare opportunity to meet and acquire pieces from some of the most innovative creators in the field. MAD About Jewelry is free with Museum admission. More information coming soon.

SEE MINE DURING JEWELRY WEEK IN MUNICH
Central Saint Martins BA Jewellery Design’ exhibition explores the intricate relationships between the ideas, materials, and processes we use. Selected works will re-examine notions of extraction: the origin, lifecycle, and ethical considerations of materials. Current students, grads, staff, and the school’s extended jewelry family will exhibit together, having mined their environments for materials and concepts, promoting resourcefulness in renewal, restoration, or conscious recontextualization. SEE VISIONS, VENTURES & VALUABLES IN MUNICH
This exhibition presents the artistic research of Liesbet Bussche, Maria Konschake, and Anneleen Swillen. They share visions from their research process, ventures they initiate, and challenges they encounter along the way. They show their artistic process and outcomes in which making and thinking, perceptions and reflections, physical valuables, and metaphorical values alternate and influence each other. All three depart from jewelry—as discipline, discourse, object, practice, perspective—to unfold their artistic identities and, in doing so, shape their research and related questions. More info.
SEE TWOSOME: MARGIT HART & FRITZ MAIERHOFER IN MUNICH
Their exhibition will be presented at Quittenbaum Gallery during Munich jewelry week. The opening takes place Wednesday, February 28, 2024, 4–7 p.m. More.
SEE 365 GRAMS AT THE BALTIMORE JEWELRY CENTER
This exhibition is part documentation and part reclamation. Beginning on July 1, 2016, without fail, Rebecca Strzelec wore one piece of jewelry from the large collection her grandmother (aka gram) had given her, as a way to show the jewels the respect and attention they deserved. After that, the jewelry became raw material for a new body of work. Through March 29, 2024. Info.
CALL FOR ENTRY: SOCIETY OF ARTS+CRAFTS

LOEWE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES CRAFT PRIZE FINALISTS
Four jewelers are among the 30 finalists: Miki Asai, from Japan; Eunmi Chun, from the Republic of Korea; New Zealand’s Karl Fritsch; and Norman Weber, from Germany, who also made the selections for this year’s Schmuck special exhibition in Munich. Congratulations! More.

JEWELLERY SYMPOSIUM IN HAXTHÄUSER HOF, GERMANY: MAY 30—JUNE 2, 2024
Theme: The Empathy of Objects. The “New Materialism” determines contemporary debates. The ability to act, the power of action, the impact of matter and things, the use of resources, the intraactivity and performativity of objects are key words. Approaches from cultural theory, philosophy of science, philosophy, sociology, feminism, art studies and different artistic practices are intertwined. Info.

KOTKA MARITIME FESTIVAL INTERNATIONAL JEWELRY COMPETITION 2024
The city of Kotka, Maritime Centre Vellamo, and the Kotka Maritime Festival organize a sea-themed jewelry competition in cooperation with the Finnish Goldsmiths’ Association and the Finnish Clock and Jewelry Museum. The purpose is to study the sea’s message and interpret it in the form of jewelry. The topic can be approached from many different angles. Deadline: First design phase ends April 5, 2024. Info.
OPEN CALL FOR APPLICATIONS: GRASSIMESSE
This international meeting place for design enthusiasts and lovers of beautiful things is an art exhibition and sales fair in one. Exhibitors will offer unique pieces, small series, and exemplary product design from the fields of textiles, fashion, jewelry, ceramics, glass, furniture, and more. The jury selects exhibitors according to high qualitative standards. Deadline: May 15, 2024. Info. The event will take place at the GRASSI Museum für Angewandte Kunst, in Leipzig, Germany, October 25–27, 2024.
OPEN CALL: TALLINN APPLIED ART TRIENNIAL
Theme: The Fine Lines of Constructiveness. This international contemporary craft event highlights works from different fields of applied art and design.
