Matthew Kangas

Matthew Kangas is the author of the award-winning book about a jeweler turned sculptor, Julie Speidel: The Center Holds, and monographs about Dale Chihuly, Robert Sperry, Maria Frank Abrams, and others. He remains a frequent contributor to Sculpture magazine and visualartsourceweeklynewsletter.com. Besides four volumes of collected essays and reviews available from Midmarch Arts Press, he co-wrote and curated the epoch-making Tales & Traditions: Storytelling in 20th-Century American Craft for St. Louis Craft Alliance. He has an honorary appointment in the Aesthetic Education Laboratory at Shanghai Teachers University and was presented to Crown Prince Naruhito and Princess Masako at the inaugural reception for Shigaraki World Ceramic Festival in 1991. Kangas lives in Seattle.
