THE 2026 AJF YOUNG ARTIST AWARD, SUPPORTED BY KAREN AND MICHAEL ROTENBERG
Now accepting applications, this competition recognizes innovative work created by a jewelry artist early in their career. For the fourth cycle in a row, it’s generously supported by the collectors Karen and Michael Rotenberg, whose collection focuses on the innovative use of alternative materials by emerging and mid-career artists. Prizes: US$7,500 for the winner; US$1,000 awards for each of the four finalists; and a travel allowance of US$1,000 each for the winner and the finalists who travel to Munich to receive their award. The winner and four finalists will also exhibit at Platina during Schmuck 2026. Deadline: November 9, 2025. Info.

THE JEWELRY OF DOROTHEA PRÜHL OPENS SEPTEMBER 6, 2025
The show, at MFA Houston, presents 26 necklaces and brooches created since the mid-1970s by the renowned German jewelry artist. Prühl is recognized worldwide for her sculptural forms rendered in wood and metal. This is the first US exhibition dedicated to the artist. The works are the largest single holding of Prühl’s jewelry in the world, and a promised gift from the Rotasa Foundation. On view September 6, 2025–January 2027. Info.
CALLIOPE: A BRASS BESTIARY—ART JEWELRY UNDER THE BIG TOP, AT GLG
Lisa and Scott Cylinder present a dazzling spectacle of one-of-a-kind necklaces, brooches, and objects inspired by the whimsy of the circus, the spin of the carousel, and the mythic spirit of Calliope herself. With fantastical creatures created from brass instruments and playful fabrications, each piece evokes youthful wonder, metaphor, and magic. THE BJC HOSTS 2ND ANNUAL GRADUATE EXHIBITION
Highlighting the depth and breadth of what is currently being created in the field, the Baltimore Jewelry Center Graduate Exhibition group show features 12 emerging jewelers and metalsmiths who have recently completed their formal education. On view in the BJC’s gallery in Baltimore’s Station North Arts & Entertainment District (10 E. North Ave.), August 15–September 26, 2025. Opening reception August 15, 5–8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The work in this year’s exhibitions spans a broad range of materials and practices, with works that represent multiple styles and explore metalsmithing through different methods of abstraction. Sculptural pieces, reimagined objects, and multiple types of vessels contribute to a dynamic and multifaceted show. The artists represent both national and international programs. CHARON KRANSEN IS JUROR FOR TWO UPCOMING PROGRAMS
The gallerist is part of the jury for Romanian Jewelry Week, in Bucharest, as well as for the international jewelry exhibition InFlow, in Budapest. During ROJW, he’ll also direct an intensive two-day workshop called “Re-writing your own script, focusing on your own evolution,” on September 29–30, 2025. Info.

ATTEND A TALK ON NAMEPLATES
Nameplates come in many shapes, styles, and sizes—from simple scripted pendants to bejeweled rings, belts, and bracelets wrought in gold, silver, and acrylic. They’re coveted and precious—but what if they’re something more? Marcel Rosa-Salas and Isabel Attyah Flower, the authors of The Nameplate: Jewelry, Culture, and Identity, share years of research into their history and significance, exploring how they tell stories about identity, community, and the memories and legacies we seek to preserve. LAUNCH PARTY FOR THE STORY SO FAR: HELEN BRITTON—AUGUST 27, 2025
Britton’s practice includes jewelry, sculpture, drawings, stencils, and installations, and is informed by popular culture and folk art, threatened traditions, environmental destruction, and human anxiety. This show is part of the Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft series, which focuses on current work, not historic surveys, to ensure that the work and ideas presented are current reflections of the practitioner’s process and output. Launches August 27, 6–8 p.m., with special guest speaker Maud Page, director of the Art Gallery of NSW. Seats are limited, so registration is essential; do so here. THINGS UNSAID, AT PISTACHIOS
Featuring 34 members of Precious Collective—in its first US showing—this exhibition conceptually explores a tangible manifestation of things unsaid. How can we extend the voice of materiality through acts of making? Where does the metaphysical influence the language of jewelry? SEATTLE METALS GUILD 2025 BIENNIAL EXHIBITION

WHAKAHOKIHOKI: JEWELLERY FROM THE DOWSE COLLECTION
Whakahokihoki means “to return.” This show stars pieces that have been traveling to far-flung destinations or recently arrived in the museum’s collection and await their first public outing. From neckpieces that could double as sculptures to rings that spark conversations, 60+ pieces of contemporary Aotearoa jewelry by 40+ artists—including AJF member Jane Dodd— reflect the rich diversity of materials, ideas, and hands that have shaped them. ENJOY GOSSIP AND JEWELRY
Throughout history, women and queer individuals have used gossip as a critical mode of knowledge transmission and survival. The exhibition Gossip: Between Us highlights work by women and queer artists in the Tacoma Art Museum’s permanent collection whose work engages gossip not only as subject matter but as methodology. Includes pieces by Mikki Lippe, Joyce J. Scott, Karen Gilbert, and others. Ongoing. Info.

RE:RE: REDEFINING JEWELLERY FOR TOMORROW―明日のジュエリーを再考する
The Itami City Museum of Art, History and Culture commemorates the 120th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Norway with a contemporary jewelry exhibition by eight artists active in both countries. The theme is “Re.” The prefix “re” conveys the idea of stopping to think once again in order to connect to a better future. In Itami, Japan, September 13–October 13, 2025. More.

AMBERIF, SEPTEMBER 4–6, 2025
The AMBERIF International Amber and Jewelry Fair takes place twice a year, in Gdańsk, Poland, but only the autumn fair is open to the public. All amber trails cross in Gdańsk. The historical tradition of processing this material continues, contributing to the heritage of centuries-old material culture. More.
ROMANIAN JEWELRY WEEK: OCTOBER 1–5, 2025
Bills itself as the largest international event organized in Romania dedicated to contemporary jewelry, organized by Assamblage National Jewelry Association since 2020. The format of event includes each year a large area of exhibitions, fairs, conferences, workshops, seminars and guided tours, with one main location as well as connex locations. In Bucharest. More.
CONTEMPORANIA: OCTOBER 2–4, 2025
What started as a jewelry festival under a different name has expanded into an international biennial for high contemporary craftsmanship. In Barcelona, Spain. Website.

OPEN CALL—SCHMUCK AND TALENTE – MASTERS OF THE FUTURE 2026
Schmuck is the oldest exhibition of contemporary jewelry in the world. Founded in 1959 by Dr. Herbert Hofmann, the prize has commemorated its founder since 1973. Talente – Masters of the Future has been an international competition for all areas of design craftsmanship since 1980. It’s possible to apply up to two years after completing training or studies. CALL FOR ENTRY: PREZIOSA YOUNG
This competition serves as a vital global platform to champion new artists, goldsmiths, and designers age 35 and under. It has significantly driven the evolution of jewelry research and unveiled groundbreaking creative work. CALL FOR ENTRY: TRANSYLVANIA JEWELRY FESTIVAL
Be part of the first jewelry festival to be held in in the heart of Transylvania, in the city of Cluj-Napoca, October 9–17, 2025. Contemporary jewelry artists, from emerging voices to established makers, including schools and collectives, are invited to explore this year’s theme: For the Love of Jewelry. The program will feature exhibitions, workshops, talks, and special events.
