Founded in 2006, the Einzweidrei collective has organized dozens of contemporary art exhibitions in sometimes unusual venues. In 2021, Nicolas Christol and Mélane Zumbrunnen decided to continue the adventure by focusing on jewelry and ceramics with Borax.
The nonprofit is housed in a cell of the former Vevey prison, in collaboration with the Gabarit museography workshop. The former guards’ dormitory was renamed Borax (an essential product for soldering and melting metal) and thus became one of the few spaces devoted mainly to contemporary jewelry in French-speaking Switzerland, straddling jewelry and contemporary art. Borax brings together young Swiss artists, some still in training, as well as international figures such as Otto Künzli, Ruudt Peters, Peter Machata, Benedict Haener, Fabrice Schaefer, Bernhard Schobinger, and Karl Fritsch. The collective also crosses borders, inviting contemporary artists as well as ceramicists to show.
Borax organizes no fewer than five exhibitions per year, showcasing Swiss and international artists. Every December, a group exhibition takes place. Open Saturdays and Sundays from 1–6 pm during exhibitions.
