Kayleigh Perkov, PhD

Kayleigh Perkov is a design historian who studies the intersection of craft and technology. She received her PhD from the Department of Visual Studies at the University of California, Irvine. Her dissertation, “Giving Form to Feedback: Craft and Technology circa 1968–1974,” examined the impact of information-age concepts and technology upon craft practice, while arguing that the projects that emerged serve as important precursors to the world of personal technology we know today. She is currently working on a book project that extends this research. Perkov was a recent curatorial fellow with the Center for Craft, is a visiting scholar at the Feminist Research Institute at UC Davis, and is a member of the editorial board for The Journal of Modern Craft. Her research has been generously supported by a predoctoral fellowship at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Center for Craft, and the Newkirk Center for Science and Society.
