“The work of researching forms over time results in an object with the help of the eyes and thoughts of my daily life,” says Jihee Hong. “Nature constructed within a routine becomes a subject for displaying my theme, expressed through a simple organization of geometric forms. The process of repeating, enumerating, and combining layers of superimposed lines gives life to the rhythm. This is refined to conjure up atypical, chance images and to create a ‘compact form.’ The work process of searching for thoughts of form in everyday life culminates in a sober object. Shapes formulated by superimposed lines were completed by a compressed object when color and light were added.” This piece is part of Viceversa’s jubilee exhibition 5 x 5, which will run until December 23, 2023. Artist: Kerianne Quick

Kerianne Quick is a craftsperson and associate professor of jewelry and metalwork at San Diego State University. This piece was recently on view at the Baltimore Jewelry Center as part of the exhibition Location Services, a three-person show featuring works by Motoko Furuhashi, Quick, and Demitra Thomloudis. Quick’s work in Location Services focuses on material origins, histories, and supply-chain information to bring the wearer/viewer an expanded perspective. Connecting to the history of jewelry as objects of remembrance, the work reminds us that history is present, even when it is unseen.

Artist: Jelizaveta Suska
Retail price: US$460
These new earrings by Jelizaveta Suska appear to be made of shimmering stone or glittering mineral, but, like much art jewelry, it’s an illusion. If they were made of stone, they would be too heavy to wear in the ears. These are made in a light polymer mixed with crushed amber, and therefore sit perfectly on the ear lobe. Elaborate details of gold are also typical of the artist when she makes this series.

So Young Park explains, “My work is based on microorganisms such as cells and sea life. Heejoo Kim finds in the technique of electroforming an echo to her artistic sensitivity—a way to convey the energy and beauty of life and nature. Through this process of successive thin layers of copper on a previously chosen or created form, immersed in a vat filled with blue water, everything comes to life, built with patience and care. Under the creator’s attentive and sincere eye, the elements that will make up her work take form. For this collection, enamel is replaced by Ottchil, a traditional Korean natural lacquer. Kim applies numerous layers of black lacquer to each element, composing her future creations. By combining both electroforming and Ottchil techniques, she succeeds in offering a deep, magical beauty, like a plunge into a dreamlike universe.

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Galeria Reverso, Sophie Hanagarth made this unique and distinctive bracelet in pure iron, using blacksmithing techniques and making it double as a signet ring. The hidden image invites intrigue—you must print it to reveal its essence, a subtle reference to “Reverso.” The lines on the heart follow the heraldic color code of green (sinople), adding a touch of symbolic elegance.

With her strong and quirky collection called Playtime, Typhaine Le Monnier is rattling the gates of art jewelry. In this new, playful collection, the neck and the circle play an important role once again. The neck is a column, a pillar around which the circle shape fits perfectly and which at the same time leaves space because the neck is not a circle. This necklace, titled Comet, can be read as a cinematic drawing of a comet entering our atmosphere, as its stone slowly dissolves and then continues to circle around the neck. Let these moons radiate around your neck.

Marília Maria Mira is an artist who is difficult to fit into a group, style, or current. It could be said that her work is made with her whole body and all the skills she has at the time she materializes it. Her head is like a firework and her soul like a conductor line of stimuli and impulses. Her presence in the field of jewelry is also not a linear path, but one that has been discovered and experimented with until it has reached the maturity that is revealed today. This solo exhibition is a milestone in a long phase of work that shows her vast interest in various things, phenomena, and situations that touch any of us humans. This exhibition is not a retrospective, but a link between her past and present, covering a period of approximately 20 years.

Ben Dory often uses welding to make his work. He finds it versatile and efficient, and it enables him to solder materials that are difficult or impossible to under most circumstances, such as stainless steel. For centuries, the granulation technique has been revered for its complex beauty and ancient mystery. Dory has pioneered his own method of stainless steel granulation using a small vacuum tube and micro welding.

The work of Deganit Stern Schocken is in a way the essence of contemporary jewelry: skilled craft combined with a powerful artistic expression.
