That’s the inspiration for this piece, a pair of earrings that can be strung together to form a necklace. “Within the two halves you can find mirrors,” states Van Hoof. “Memories that transform as they are passed from person to person. As you thread the necklace, the mirror is hidden, just as a memory is hidden within a locket when people wear it. When worn as earrings, the outside world is reflected on the piece. When one's locket is closed, there are no external factors that can distort it, but there are internal factors. If you never open the locket, you are going to forget what the picture inside looks like. But if you open the locket, external factors are going to affect it.
