AJF is pleased to announce that the 2008 exhibition grant award winner is Rowan University. Jill Baker Gower, assistant professor Metals/Jewelry Department, submitted the winning proposal from a field of seven semi-finalists.
Rowan University will receive a $2000 cash award. The award will fully support creation of a color catalog documenting the exhibition Decorative Resurgence, an exhibit focused on contemporary jewelry and metalwork inspired by historical ornamentation and decoration. Jurors for the exhibition are Jill Baker Gower and Jessica Calderwood, artist and faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. The exhibition will be held in the University Gallery at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey and will coincide with the Society of North American Goldsmith’s conference entitled Revolution, to be held in Philadelphia, May 20-23, 2009. A digital image presentation of the exhibition will be held during the SNAG conference.
The goal of this award is to encourage and promote activities consistent with the mission of AJF and promote art jewelry to the broader community. Applicants for the award must be tax-exempt in the United States. The focus of the application must be on contemporary art jewelry and exhibitions must be held within the United States.
Members of the grant review committee for the 2008 award were: Trish Rodimer, past president of AJF, Karen Lorene, owner of Facèré Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle, Rita Newman, long-standing member of AJF and Susan Kempin, this year’s award-program chair.
