AJF is excited to announce the following members who have recently joined or renewed.
AJF members support the writers who create our original content, help artists via our grants, bolster our jewelry-related events, and increase knowledge of the field of art jewelry. We thank you all for being part of our community! Discover the perks of becoming an AJF member by clicking here.
NEW MEMBERS: LISA & SCOTT CYLINDER
Q: Tell us about your working process.
A: We are a husband-and-wife team that met in art school—at Tyler School of Art, in Philadelphia—and have been full-time collaborators since 1988, designing and making each piece ourselves. The work is passed back and forth to each other to complete the various tasks required. Although we each have different skill sets, we have worked out a mutually satisfying system to meet our combined goals, while usually agreeing on what and how we reach our outcome.
NEW MEMBER: LOUISE MICHAELSSON
Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: My dream is to combine writing novels and producing a podcast about art jewery with running a gallery for contemporary art jewelry in Stockholm, Sweden. I am not exactly sure of the details on how I can make it happen, but being an AJF member must be a good start! I am very much looking forward to learning more about art jewelry, artists, and collectors from this fabulous group of jewelry aficionados.
RENEWING MEMBER: EMIKO OYE
Q: What’s something hardly anyone knows about you as an artist?
A: Back in the day, as a young adult and emerging artist, rejection from professionals in the field was a motivational and driving force. When told I’d never make it as such-and-such, or that my work was too “out there,” it drove me to work even harder and persevere to prove them wrong.
NEW MEMBER: LESLYE ZHANG
Q: Tell us about yourself.
A: I’m based in Shanghai, China. I got professional knowledge and learned the skills of contemporary jewelry design in the Metal Craft Studio at Shanghai University Academy of Fine Arts in 2018. In 2021, I received my degree in MA Design (Jewellery and Metalwork) from Sheffield Hallam University, UK. At present, I am running an international logistics company. So I concentrate on creating in my spare time. I hope AJF may help me to connect my works with the world, as this is the way I express my understanding of the world.
