Taboo Studio was established in the Gaslamp district in downtown San Diego in 1988 and is owned and managed by jewelers Jane Groover and Joanna Rhoades.
Taboo Studio began as a gallery to display and sell original jewelry created by contemporary jewelers and metalsmiths. West Lewis Street in Mission Hills has been our current location for almost two decades, and today we represent over 75 artists who are locally, nationally, and internationally recognized.
Each of the artists is known for his or her distinct style and use of materials. All work is handmade and is one of a kind, or of limited production. Collectors frequent Taboo Studio in search of new works by their favorite artists.
Taboo Studio also designs and creates custom jewelry for clients utilizing their stones, or gems from the gallery’s collection.
The gallery hosts four major exhibits per year and is available for group receptions, tours, and artist presentations.
