Atiyah Curmally

Atiyah Curmally is an MA candidate in the Smithsonian-Corcoran George Washington University Decorative Arts and Design History program. Curmally’s research is on African-American Studio Jewelry, with a focus on the work of Art Smith and Joyce J. Scott. The starting point of her research is a meeting between Smith and Scott in 1972 at a workshop on African Craft held at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. When she’s not spending her time poring over the Francis Sumner Merritt papers at the Archives of American Art, she works as an environmental specialist on sustainable finance for a development finance institution in Washington, DC.
