In 2011, Damian Skinner gave a lecture at the SNAG conference in Seattle titled 'All the World Over: The Global Ambitions of Contemporary Jewelry.' In his lecture, Skinner explored the way in which a European jewelry discourse has become an international jewelry discourse and the way this excludes contemporary jewelry from certain parts of the world. Analysing the effects of presenting a history of contemporary jewelry based on the narrative of the critique of preciousness, he argued for a different understanding of the dynamic between regional and international in the work of three jewelers from Argentina, New Zealand and Australia. This lecture was sponsored by AJF.
